A.MANO BROOKLYN Store Design and Branding

A.MANO Brooklyn, previously Cain Sloan, is a Brooklyn-based home decor shop merging the retail of locally-made ceramics, vintage art, and up-cycled fine furniture.

The shop creates a hub for artists, Brooklyn residents, and retailers to collaborate and make local art accessible on a larger scale. In addition, A.MANO is partnering with Brooklyn Clay, a ceramic shop and school located just next door, using this relationship to promote local art as well as benefit from the retail of the pieces.

The shop fuses various design aesthetics from funky to minimalist to industrial, drawing inspiration from iconic artists such as Donald Judd and Nathalie Du Pasquier, and adding a unique, modern flair.

This project becomes Mannino Studio's tribute of its dual heritage: the Italian postmodern and the American minimalism on the other side.

Sergio Mannino, who trained with Ettore Sottsass at the beginning of his career, then chose New York to create his design headquarter. As a result, he got to know better and deeply loved different minimalistic art expressions.

A.MANO also offers the environmentally friendly option to disassemble the interior design without destroying the materials. Mannino studio felt the responsibility to design sustainably: solutions that didn't limit the general creativity of the firm but that, at the same time, represent an essential gesture to show that we can decide wisely. For example, the blue Bermuda glazed bricks by Glen Gery are installed without using lime or glue; the same thing happened for stained plywood furniture.

The interior is divided into three different spaces, each with a distinct feel; The main goal was to create a progressive flow, surprise, and donate different experiences for the clientele.

The main gallery is eye-catching and solid, while the coffee area on the left is more cozy and decorative. Here, the counter space is emphasized by the Mutina tiles designed by Nathalie Du Pasquier in perfect Memphis Milano style, which Mannino Studio used to create a ceramic rug on the floor.
