Custom Handmade Rug, Spirit in The Sky
Handmade Rug Spirit in The Sky
A custom handmade rug is a one-of-a-kind piece designed specifically for a client, crafted using high-quality materials and traditional weaving techniques.
Custom rugs allow you to personalize colors, patterns, sizes, and materials to perfectly fit your space, ensuring uniqueness and superior quality compared to mass-produced rugs.
The studio collaborates with clients to develop bespoke designs, selecting the finest materials and working with expert artisans to craft unique, high-end rugs.
The studio focuses on high-quality craftsmanship and a distinctive modern aesthetic, ensuring that each rug is an artistic statement as well as a functional decor piece.
Can I choose the design, color, and size of my rug?
Yes! Clients can fully customize their rug’s design, color palette, dimensions, and material to match their interior style and preferences. We usually start from an existing graphic pattern and then develop a new design, but we can also start completely from scratch.
What materials are used for custom handmade rugs?
The studio offers a variety of high-quality materials, including wool, silk, bamboo silk, and natural fibers, ensuring durability and a luxurious feel. We usually recommend wool and silk, combined to give the right textures and shine.
Custom rugs are usually hand-knotted, but in certain cases, when the budget doesn’t allow it, we opt for hand-tufted, a modern technique that has a similar look of the hand-knotted rugs but is a lot cheaper. Keep in mind that a hand-knotted rug can last 100 years or more if well cared for, a had-tufted one will eventually start shedding after a few years. Hand tufted rugs also tend to acquire value as they age, had tufted ones do not.

Sergio Mannino, who holds a degree in architecture from the University of Florence, has accumulated extensive experience working alongside design pioneers like Ettore Sottsass and Remo Buti. This knowledge wasn't merely stored but shared when he took on a teaching role in interior architecture at the same university for a span of three years. His career path led him to New York in 2001, and by 2002, he had already organized a solo exhibition at Milan's acclaimed Memphis-Postdesign Gallery. This display featured his array of furniture designs, including nine built pieces and a hundred watercolors, all under the supervision of Sottsass. Sergio founded his design studio in 2008 with the mission to explore all aspects of design, interpreting the precise time we live in.
